Dosage form and Strength of Pirfenex 400mg (Pirfenidone) Tablet:
It is a film-coated tablet. Each film-coated tablet contains Pirfenidone 400mg.

Mechanism of Action:
It is in a class of medications called pyridones. It works by blocking the action of a certain natural substance in the body that is involved in causing fibrosis. It shows both anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects. It inhibits both production and activity of TGF-β which leads to reduction of fibrosis and swelling in lungs. It slows down the buildup of scar tissue (fibrosis) in the lung by interfering with the ability of cells to make scar tissue. It could inhibit apoptosis, downregulate ACE receptor’s expression, decrease inflammation by several mechanisms and ameliorate oxidative stress and hence protect pneumocytes and other cells from invasion and cytokine storm simultaneously.
